It was the sound of the aisle, now it’s official! Crew 3 will be called The Crew Motorfest, and will take place on the Hawaiian island of Oahu, for the highly anticipated sequel to the racing game made at Ubisoft and Ivory Tower. In between announcements, we were able to interview creative director Stephane “Fergus” Beley who spoke to us about the upcoming title.

In continuation of The Crew 2

The Crew and The Crew 2 have explored a beautiful, vibrant and consistent community to endure over time, the second still being polished by the Ivory Tower team. With this name change to The Crew Motorfest, we logically ask ourselves the question of the saga’s resurgence. The third title will be a continuation of the series at some point. Let fans be assured though, the festival aspect of the title won’t limit it to mission sequences and we will always have a giant open world to navigate between quests and beautiful landscapes.

Various types of vehicles will be present there, from classic racing cars to motor boats and planes. “We call it Motorfest and not Carfest,” laughs Stéphane Beley aka Fergus, creative director of the title. The social aspect seen in The Crew 2 (Le Live) is still relevant, just like the desire to extend the title’s development long-term through updates. Saga fans know it, this strategy made it possible to take a few steps ahead in previous games (we were on season 7 of The Crew 2 which was released in 2018, season 8 is coming!) a few people. Special trademark for Ivory Tower not ready to quit:

Our community, we’ve been used to improving titles over the long haul since The Crew, and then we refined that in The Crew 2. For The Crew Motorfest, we’re going to fully embrace that universe. From its launch, we’d say the game would be a starter pack that would launch years of adventure. How many ? I don’t know, but we’re going to go into amazing years where every month will take us to the twists and turns of car culture and every week the environment changes. – Stéphane “Fergus” Beley, creative director

However, The Crew 3’s new life revolves around its name. While the first two works are fairly neutral in title, the third section picks up more precisely: Motorfest will be a festival registered around Car-culture to cut the title into several axes. Through this first stop of the festival in Hawaii, Fergus promises 5 main paths for players to take: competition, collection, customization, exploration and social adventure sharing, each can live their own adventure. If Stéphane Beley prefers to keep the tension on the possible intrigue in the title, the number of vehicles and the evolution of the multiplayer mode, he whispers to us that there will be “multiple scenarios, more vehicles, brands” and “even more advanced multiplayer adventures.” In the beta phase, Motorfest’s release date was not officially announced, but the title’s launch is expected in a few months.

Aloha, welcome to Hawaii!

For the setting, Ivory Tower and Yam have made their choice of Hawaii and the island of Oahu, home to Honolulu or even Pearl Harbor. A suitable volcanic destination for an engine that has been “enhanced” according to Fergus, who carries the island in his heart. The original map and its 1,545 km² area won’t be on a 1:1 scale, but the creative director promises a beautiful recreation of the latter, thanks in particular to the Next generation possibilities. Whether it’s a night race in the city or off-road in the forest, the visual rendering and visual effects promise to be enhanced by this new technique according to the man, but also by a variety of biomes. Volcanoes, beaches, cities, jungles, the title promises exoticism.

Finally, if The Crew Motorfest’s release happens in 2023, its niche will be nearly perfect considering the lack of competition in the open world racing game sector expected this year, Need for Speed Unbound released in 2022 and development of Forza Horizon 6 being a priori only at first. Finally, only Test Drive Unlimited: Solar Crown could secure the title in that sector if it comes out this yeara story that begins with Stéphane Beley at the heart of the project at the time and is located in… Hawaii and Oahu.

We need you. From beta, we need our community to polish, finalize, improve the game to launch so it’s a big party for everyone. I know you expect a lot from the title, here we come. From February 1st, I am waiting for you firmly in the Insider Program – Stéphane “Fergus” Beley, creative director
