How to Share Your Wi-Fi Password on Android Phone: 2 Easy Ways

Many times you want to share your home Wi-Fi password with guests, and sometimes you can’t always remember the password. While you might get there after a few tries, there’s an easier way to share your remote Wi-Fi password on an Android phone.

Devices running Android 10 and up have a built-in feature for sharing your network information with other devices. You can share Wi-Fi password using QR code or Direct Sharing. Here we show you how to do it.

1. Create a QR code to share your Wi-Fi password

You can generate a QR code to share network details with other devices without entering a password. Note that sharing by QR code does not hide your password but simply eliminates the need to remember passwords or enter details manually on other devices.

To generate a network share QR code:

1. Open the app drawer and tap on it Arrangement. You can also swipe down to view Quick Settings and tap Arrangement.

3. Choose Wireless.
4. Make sure you are connected to the network you want to share with. Then tap Arrangement (gear icon) next to the network name.
5. Tap the icon QR code to access the network sharing function.

7. Once the QR code is ready, you have several options for sharing it. Guest devices can use the built-in or third-party QR code scanners to scan the QR code and view network details.
8. To use the built-in network scanner on other devices, open it Settings > Connections > Wireless.
9. In the upper right corner, tap the button QR code to start the scanner.
10. Scan the network sharing QR code and wait for the device to detect the network.

Note that older Android devices may not have a built-in network QR code scanner. Instead, you can use third-party apps like QR & Barcode Scanner to do it.

2. Share Wi-Fi Password via Nearby Sharing

If you don’t want to scan the QR code, you can use Direct Share to share your Wi-Fi password. While this method also requires generating a Network Sharing QR code, it does not involve scanning the QR code.

Nearby Sharing is an Android feature that lets you share files and apps with other devices wirelessly. It also allows you to share network details with other Android devices near you. If you have not used this feature before, you must first enable and configure Direct Sharing. Here’s how.

1. On your Android device, tap Arrangement.
2. Scroll down and tap Google.
3. Then tap Devices and Sharing and choose Nearby Sharing.
4. Then turn the switch to Use Nearby Sharing to activate it.
5. It’s possible bluetooth and Location on your phone.
6. Once done, generate a network share QR code by following the steps in the first method.
7. On the QR code screen, tap Share Nearby and keep your friend’s phone close to yours.
8. Tap on your friend’s phone name and accept the connection if necessary.
9. Once the content is received, tap it Backup Network. Android phone automatically registers and connects to the network.
