5 video game adaptations we’re looking forward to –

Video game adaptations are something a lot of people try to avoid. We all remember the horror series adaptations of Assassin’s Creed, Tomb Raider and Prince of Persia, which suffered more from being boring than being too bad.

However, in the realm of live-action video game adaptations, we seem to be turning over a new leaf. The Last of Us, as good as it is, has given us hope that future adaptations won’t be mediocre, and that we can actually look forward to retellings of some of our favorite games. There are more than a few video game adaptations currently in the works, but we’ve narrowed down a few standout hits for you to pay attention to.

Horizon TV show

We’ve known for a long time that Netflix was developing a series based on the Horizon universe. The working title is said to be Horizon 2074, though we haven’t had any official confirmation on that yet. The series is still very early in development, and we don’t know who will star in it, or whether to follow Aloy’s story or take a different approach.

Here’s the announcement:

Even if we give up on Aloy’s quest for knowledge on the TV show Horizon, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth the wait. The world building that Guerrilla infused into its post-apocalyptic series is still compelling and leaves plenty of time-consuming moments that could be explored as a TV series.

There may be an entire show on Earth before the GAIA reset, showing us the war against the machines. Or, to avoid Terminator comparisons, the Horizon series could just show us a protagonist based in another tribe, showing us culture in greater depth than the games have to offer.

Here’s the announcement:

God of War series

Outside of The Last of Us, arguably the most popular game series at the moment is the God of War adaptation from Amazon. Due to the overwhelmingly positive reception of Ragnarok, God of War is as hot as ever, and so many people hope Amazon’s series does its fair share.

While there may be mistakes that have been made in ditching Kratos’ Greek lore in favor of the Norse saga, we can’t help but hope that Amazon wants to get this one right. The God of War games since 2018 have been great cinematic experiences, so unless Amazon really wants to spoil this one, they’re going to have a hard time.

A lot of pressure was put on the cast for this adaptation, but with Sunny Suljic and Christopher Judge doing such a great job as Atreus and Kratos, who can blame fans for wanting something to live up to the look?

Amazon’s Fall Show

While the adaptations of Horizon and God of War may be years away, Amazon’s Fallout TV series is slated to arrive later this year, and we’ve seen plenty of set photos that make it look like an adaptation.

From power armor to the Super-Duper Mart, we’ve seen plenty of things to get excited about for the Fallout TV series. Plus, there’s the cast, including familiar faces like Walter Goggins, Ella Purnell, and Kyle MacLachlan.

Goggins should star in the Fallout series, and he will play a ghost. It’s interesting because we’ve never had a ghostly protagonist in a Fallout game, so seeing one in the series proves it will offer a fresh take on beloved material. Hopefully, even with these differences, it still feels like a Fallout product.

Super Mario Bros. Movies

Super Mario Bros. yet has the strongest history with video game adaptations. The 1993 film set the bar high for video game films, and even with the 2023 film soon to be released, Chris Pratt did his best to undermine the hype with Mario’s lackluster sound and lack of character. project.

However, if Pratt is removed from the equation, The Super Mario Bros. Movie seems like a promising movie. With Illumination’s bright and fluid animation, Jack Black and Charlie Day all we can ask of Bowser and Luigi, and the general sense of fun throughout the promotional material, we may not be redefining cinema with this one, but it looks like it will. . entertaining at least. Given the success of the Sonic and Detective Pikachu movies, sometimes a mix of fun with great visuals is just what you need.

The Borderlands film was first announced back in 2015, and while it’s been a while since then, that doesn’t mean we’re in trouble. The Borderlands universe isn’t based on one cohesive story like The Last of Us, but there’s enough core narrative to make for a compelling film.

With Cate Blanchett as the main character, at least we will get a solid performance from this film. Once upon a time, it would have been easy to dismiss Borderlands as nothing more than a 5/10 action game at best, but now we live in a different time, where video game adaptations can be great. So while I don’t think our last two entries will knock it out of the park, I’m still looking forward to seeing what they accomplish.
