Bioshock you know? The FPS license marked a special vibrancy thanks to its exciting first work in motion and then declined with several sequels, including the acclaimed Bioshock Infinite. The title has brought changes to the franchise, especially in terms of artistic direction. For us, a risky but successful bet as this is one of the rare games to get 19 out of 20 with us. But what does it say? Goodbye Rapture and hello Colombia. Booker DeWitt, assassin, finds himself on this paradise island with a very specific mission: to save Elisabeth, who was locked up since her childhood by the supreme leader of Columbia. Why is he trapped and why is it up to you to set him free? What mysteries hide this extraordinary city? To find out, just pay €7.49 on Steam.
We continue with another great video game license: Borderlands. The latest installment of the license, Borderlands 3, is out nowavailable at 8,99 € instead of €59.99, that is 85% promotion. If you’ve never gotten a licensed game before, this is the perfect opportunity to try it out. As a reminder, Borderlands is a first-person shooter series that’s both naughty and utterly insane. In this third installment, you will face the vicious Calypso twins who are trying to enslave all the bandits and rule the world, or at least what’s left of it. Note that the ultimate version of the game is also on sale (-71%) and allows you to enjoy, in addition to the base game, the 6 accompanying DLC. Other franchise games (Borderlands 2, Tiny Tina’s Wonderland…) are also available at a lower price.
New game, new video game monsters with Civilization VI, the latest work of the highly acclaimed strategy game license. Do we really need to show a Civilization license? A true reference in the 4X field, has made a name for himself even with neophytes. His goal was to manage his civilization and empire throughout the centuries, be it economically, culturally or militarily. For Steam sales, the game, which still gets an excellent 17 out of 20 with us, has ridiculous prices: 5,99€. You can even treat yourself to bundles with different DLC for €29.62 and €15. So this is your chance to finally give this great license a try, even if you’re not necessarily familiar with the genre.
We’re changing the register with a game that focuses on narrative above all else. This is one of the little gems from French studio Quantic Dream. As you may know, his specialty is narrative games. You know Detroit: Become Human, which was a huge hit the year it was released (2018). But do you know any of Quantic Dream’s older titles, like Heavy Rain? A true classic from the French studio, the title ticks a lot of heads. Field? A serial killer stalks a town on the east coast of the United States. We called him “origami killer”. Your destination? Unmask him before he kills his next victim. And to do this you will follow the adventures of four characters: Ethan Mars, the father of a child kidnapped by the killer; Madison Pagie, journalist; Norman Jayden, FBI profiler, and Scoot Shelby, private detective. Title currently available for €9.95 on Steam.
Looking forward to GTA 6? Why not switch to one of the many GTA-Likes, such as the Mafia license? Better yet, why not treat yourself to one of its games without spending too much? Leave? The Steam sale has answered your call by offering Mafia: Definitive Edition for €13.99 instead of €39.99. Don’t panic, this isn’t a 2002 game which of course is pretty bad old. Definitive Edition is indeed a remake that was released in 2020. As the name suggests, this game takes us to the middle of the underworld. You are in 1930s America and you play as a young taxi driver who becomes an important pawn in the mafia. Unmatched atmosphere, redesigned gameplay, perfect writing… Mafia: Definitive Edition fully deserves 17 out of 20.
Since there’s something for everyone, let us offer you a beetle-friendly beat’em up with Scott Pilgrim vs. World: Games. As you can imagine if the name Scott Pilgrim is familiar to you, this is an adaptation of the comic of the same name, released at the same time as other adaptations but in theaters. Unsurprisingly, it’s take on the characters and universe of the comics. It was the developers at Ubisoft Montreal who brought this world to life, thanks in particular to the invaluable assistance of Paul Robertson (animator and graphic designer) and the Anamanaguchi group who handled the game’s soundtrack. classics through to Complete Edition, released later and including all additional content. It is this edition that has collected the beautiful tones 16 of 20 with us. And currently available for €4.95 on Steam.
You will take a little indie game in this choice, right? So here’s Skul: The Hero Slayer, an action-packed 2D platformer with rogue-like mechanics. As the lone skeleton, you must face the Empire’s army and let the Demon King reclaim the throne. To carry out this mission, Skul (that’s his name) can rely on a somewhat special ability: he can change skills depending on the skull he’s wearing. With a lovely 80 on Metacritic, Skul: The Hero Slayer is a little nugget not to be missed, especially at such a low price. At the Steam sale opportunity, only games from SouthPAW Games and NEOWIZ for €8.39 (instead of €16.79).
Currently, Ubisoft is in a bad condition. But still, over the past few years, the French studio has given us plenty of reasons to be proud with some really good titles. As well as Assassin’s Creed, this is also the case with titles branded with Tom Clancy, such as The Division. If the franchise will soon offer us a free-to-play game, Tom Clancy’s The Division Heartland, it is already possible to taste it by giving up on The Division 2, available at 9€ during the Steam sale. In the heart of pandemic-ravaged Washington DC, your mission is to defend the destiny of the free world. Between RPG and FPS, the game has received quite positive feedback and a great 17 out of 20 for us. The pricey 87 then qualifies it as a “real success”, certainly lacking in novelty but offering “varied, fun and solid content”.
We deliver classics that are sure not to speak to everyone. Trine is a platform game license between action and reflection, developed by Finland at Frozenbyte. A little twist: You have to alternate between three characters (Knight, Thief and Magician) all of whom Trine brings together. But above all it’s the graphics and atmosphere that will excite critics. As a result, the first game quickly offered up a sequel, then another and another. All in all, the Trine saga will offer us four works, all very well received. And if you’re missing out, it’s time to fix it with a Steam sale. Only for €17.36 (compared to €86.96 in normal times), you can gain access to not one, but all four games in the franchise through Trine: Ultimate Collection. And if you prefer to try just one of the titles, know that they are also on sale and they are all available for less than 10 euros.
We ended with a genre specific but recently opened up to a wider audience by handling a very popular license: Marvel superheroes. The game we’re talking about is obviously Midnight Suns, which is also being developed by the same studio that created the license that interests us today, namely XCOM. If you like the gameplay of this XCOM-Like and want to take it to the next level, maybe it’s time to give XCOM 2 a try. If we told you, you can imagine, it’s because the game has the right to great promotions during the Steam sale. It is indeed available for only €4.99 after purchase (instead of €49.99). In this sequel, aliens have taken over the earth and rule it tyrannically. But XCOM isn’t dead, yet. Several survivors were still there to organize a response. In this strategy game, your goal is to exorcise the aliens and exterminate them once and for all. All of which benefit from the incredibly solid gameplay that allowed the title to collect an excellent 18 out of 20 with us.
