I have to find my words. I’m so nervous. My heart won’t stop beating. The late Tony Morrison said that your life is already a miracle of chance waiting for you to determine its fate. But for this destiny to come true, I think it takes courage to have faith. It takes patience, as we just heard. And that requires true knowledge of yourself. It has not been easy because the past has been twists and turns and has many unexpected twists and turns, but by the grace of God I am standing here. I’m grateful here.

Winning an award for a superhero film, a rare achievement

therefore it is the first time any actor has won a major award for a role at Marvel. But when you take a step back from this kind of film, it seems to win this award increase even more than the feat. Indeed, before this ceremony, only four actors – all male – have even been nominated for a Golden Globe after starring in a superhero film. First Jack Nicholson, for his role as the Joker in Tim Burton’s Batman in 1989, he was beaten by Morgan Freeman for the role of Hoke Colburn in Miss Daisy and Her Chauffeur. Heath Ledger has won the prize for his interpretation of the Joker in The Dark Knight in 2008. In 2016, Ryan Reynolds has been nominated for his role as Deadpool in the eponymous film, but was beaten by Ryan Gosling for the role of Sebastian in La La Land. In 2019, Joaquin Phoenix has won awards for his role… as the Joker, again, in the eponymous film. Note, Ledger and Phoenix, and DC Comics with them, have still had a head start since they did also won an Oscar for these roles.

Black Panther: Wakanda Forever is still showing in cinemas in France. The next Marvel film to be released here is Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, which premieres on February 15.
