We’re off strong with Forspoken, the next – and new – action-RPG from Square Enix. So, to be clear, this is not an open world in the narrow sense of the term! Areas to explore freely are unlocked as you go, you don’t have access to all of them in the first place. Nothing serious. In all cases, universe of Athia stretched out his hand to you here. You play as Frey, a young New Yorker who is thrown, without warning, into a magical dimension! The goal? Go out. To do this: he can rely on magic parkour to move quickly.

Hogwarts legacy
Want more magic? So we turn to Hogwarts Legacy, the famous and highly anticipated Harry Potter RPG. Of course, you have to worry about zombies – yes – but also about other players, who can also attack you and take your precious loot! The world of The Day Before was growing big – with the need for vehicles to travel.

Zelda’s Royal Tear
The next game could almost define 2023 all by itself. Yes – next year – we will be able to play the sequel to Breath of the Wild, namely Zelda Tears of the Kingdom… So we don’t know exactly under what circumstances we will find the open world of the first episode, clearly destroyed by a not very convincing disaster! But for sure there will be plenty to explore, this time in the air flying island, and a large number of structures whose secrets we do not yet know. Another amazing epic.

STALKER 2 Heart of Chernobyl
For the first time: the STALKER series will choose an open world with its second work The Heart of Chernobyl! As before, the developer will rely on “A-Life”, an engine that allows NPCs on the map to interact with each other. After the incredible Prey, the developers at Arkane took the vampire and action shooter direction with Redfall. A new project that will be in the open world, so… Good in own | in cooperation, here you will have the opportunity to travel to Massachusetts in search of a creature that hates garlic. As heroes, Devinder, cryptozoologist, Layla, telekinetics student, Remi, military engineer, Jacob, former sniper are there. A dream team, in a game with gameplay that’s still absolutely stunning. Can’t wait to see the results.

Marvel’s Spider-Man 2
In between Zelda Tears of the Kingdom, 2023 will also be the year of Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, the sequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man, a very good episode from 2018… This time, Peter Parker and Miles Morales will have to face the Venom who terrible – and that’s all we know. As of now, we haven’t seen any gameplay videos, but one thing for sure, it will remain an open-world game. After all, what better way to allow Spidey to move smoothly manhattan streets ? It remains to be seen how Insomniac will evolve its base formula.

Diablo 4
Another first for a great video game series: Diablo IV will also venture into the open world. According to the developers, you will be able to explore Blizzard’s newest world at your own pace after the prologue is over. Enough to fall on strong opponents or dungeons priceless treasure ! Yes, Diablo IV remains a hack’n’slash where action and loot (lots of objects to collect) occupy a very important place. We just hope that the open world choice won’t bog down Diablo’s significant development curve too much.

Starfield
Another huge hope for 2023, Starfield is the Bethesda studio’s next project, usually working on The Elder Scrolls series. Here – of course – a complete change of scenery since we take the direction of space and stars, with ‘over 1000 planets’ to explore, that’s all. Clearly, Bethesda isn’t copying No Man’s Sky’s faults here – with too many randomly generated, uninteresting locations. We want the quality of the team’s writing to be consistent there! We’re looking forward to seeing all of this… in 2023, therefore.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage
For once in a long time: the Assassin’s Creed series won’t opt for a huge open world but for a well-deserved return to basics. In the Mirage, towards the Middle East and especially Baghdad. Here you play Bassim who, like any good assassin, has to take advantage of it city density and their secrets to achieve their targets. Therefore, the main interest is the cities themselves. It doesn’t have much to do with Valhalla, but we can’t wait to see how Ubisoft will revive the essence of the series. Mirage, it’s coming soon!
