What is the One Piece Odyssey game like?
One Piece Odyssey is a turn-based role-playing game. Exploration doesn’t take up much space here as you are guided through the story through a corridor type environment. It was possible to get away from it a bit, but not enough to mark the spirit significantly. Therefore, most of the gameplay revolves around combat, much of it being inspired by Dragon Quest XI. Thanks to their rock-paper-scissors system (effective, weak or neutral type depending on the enemy), zones that allow for the distribution of their various fighters, special techniques for some characters and a feeling of permanent progression, they prove smooth and engaging when our preview.
How is the story of One Piece Odyssey?
One Piece Odyssey tells an original story. Bandai Namco and ILCA did not want to adapt any of the manga’s many arcs (collected through over a hundred volumes today). For these untold stories, the Straw Hat crew took us to Wafford Island after a shipwreck. Now stranded, the Mugiwara (Luffy’s crew name in Japanese) go to meet Adio and Lim. But the last one will make all pirates forget their power. They therefore have no choice: they must search the island to discover their abilities before leaving. Small features: some require you to dive back into your memories, allowing players to relive key moments from the manga, from Alabasta to Water Seven.

Was Eiichiro Oda involved in developing the game?
We are no longer featuring Eiichiro Oda, the mangaka behind One Piece. That licensing fans are assured, the man was well involved in the development of One Piece Odyssey. He primarily draws new characters (such as Adio and Lim) and creatures and supervises the writing of the screenplays. At the beginning of 2022, he even praised “amazing immersion” permitted by One Piece Odyssey. Other minor details that anime fans need to know this time around: the game retains the same voice actors as the last. What makes the fan service aspect even more prominent, is very present in the game.

When is the One Piece Odyssey release date?
There have been many delays over the past year and One Piece Odyssey is no exception. Scheduled for 2022, its release was finally pushed back to early 2023, to be precise on January 13th. As a reminder, the game will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, and Xbox Series. Note that the demo will be available for free starting January 10th on consoles.
