ASM Clermont – Perpignan: Penaud absent from group, Newsome and Ezeala return
Another setback for Damian Penaud. After a somewhat complicated return from the Fall Tour with France and the announcement of his season-ending departure at UBB, the Clermont winger is going through a rough patch.
While he performed without any problems in training this Thursday, Clermontois has since felt some muscle discomfort in his ischio. ASM is taking no chances and has rested its senior players for the crucial game against Perpignan in Michelin (Saturday, 17.00).
Moala was not retained in the group
Rabah Slimani regained his place in the starting XV and replaced Davit Kubriashvili. In the absence of Sébastien Vahaamahina (broken nose) and Paul Jedrasiak (concussion), the second line remains unchanged with Lavanini and Amatosero. Off Godener and Guilly in third row, replaced by Fischer and Tixeront, also returning from injury.
Bézy – Plisson hinges updated against Perpignan. Behind it are many changes… and above all choices. With most of the players available, apart from Penaud, the staff will have to decide and a few could find a place to play this important game.
Ezeala joined this backline, numerically replacing Penaud while Delguy, Raka and Simone kept their ranks. At full-back, Alex Newsome, who is returning from a shoulder injury, replaces Cheikh Tiberghien, who will sit on the bench.
Alex Newsome, before ASM Clermont – Perpignan: “We can’t keep making the same mistakes and expect to win”
However available after his concussion, George Moala was not in the group, which seemed to be Clermont management’s choice. Jauneau and Belleau remained on the bench, while Pelissié and Bibi Biziwu found their places on the sidelines. Young Tuataane and Guilly, who came to help against Toulouse, were not present in the group.
