What football games are coming to ESPN+ in January
January 2023 not only brought a new year, but also a return to consistent club football on ESPN+.
This includes league competitions, namely the Bundesliga and La Liga. However, it also investigates cut links. With the World Cup now in the rearview mirror, the players are fully following the club’s season.
Here are the most popular games to watch on ESPN+ as we enter the new year.

Friday 6 January – Everton v Manchester United (FA Cup Third Round) – Live on ESPN+
The two most popular teams in England faced each other early in the FA Cup. This was the teams’ first meeting in the FA Cup since the 2016 semi-finals. United won the game narrowly, 2-1, with Anthony Martial scoring a late goal.
Saturday 7 January – Coventry City v Wrexham (FA Cup Third Round) – LIVE ON ESPN+
Wrexham is back in the public spotlight. Welcome to Wrexham at the FX star are in the third round of the FA Cup to face Coventry City on the road. This is Wrexham’s first game against EFL opponents in this edition of the FA Cup. Wrexham are one of three teams from outside the top four divisions to reach this stage of the tournament.
Sunday 8 January – Manchester City v Chelsea (FA Cup Third Round) – LIVE ON ESPN+
On paper, this is the best game in the third round of the FA Cup. There have been other matches involving Premier League teams, including Everton v United. However, this one is special. City and Chelsea contested the Carabao Cup earlier this season just before the World Cup. City beat the Blues. Interestingly, these two faced off just three days before this FA Cup fixture in a Premier League fixture.
Sunday 8 January – Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona (LaLiga) – LIVE ON ESPN+
Atletico Madrid could be in trouble this year. The club sit right in the top four, with Joao Felix looking set to leave on loan. After 15 matches, Barcelona is at the top of the table, but narrowly. This is an interesting team of teams moving in opposite directions.
Tuesday 10 January and Wednesday 11 January – (Carabao Cup) – LIVE ON ESPN+
The last eight of the Carabao Cup didn’t feature a game that jumps off the screen. Newcastle against Leicester City is an interesting game. However, the three bottom teams in the Premier League standings, Nottingham Forest, Wolves and Southampton, are all in the bottom three. Of course, Manchester United, Manchester City and Newcastle, all in the top four, are also in the game. So there is still a strong team there.
January 11 to January 15 – Supercopa de España – LIVE ON ESPN+
This mini-tournament involves four teams. La Liga winners and runners-up and Copa del Rey winners and runners-up. This year, that means Real Madrid and Barcelona will be joined by Cup opponents Real Betis and Valencia in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Real Madrid faces Valencia while Betis faces Barcelona. This semifinal is just a one-off before the Supercopa de España final on January 15, which could become a Clásico if both teams win.
Friday 20 January – RB Leipzig vs Bayern Munich (Bundesliga) – LIVE ON ESPN+
The match marked the return of the Bundesliga after the winter break. And what are the ways to do it. Last year’s champions Bayern Munich face reigning DFB-Pokal champions RB Leipzig. The two clubs are currently in the top three of the Bundesliga table and have developed a minor rivalry in recent years.
In January, ESPN+ scheduled more than 2,600 live sports events. It includes more than 110 football games.
